professional biography

Neil de la Flor, born in Hollywood, Florida, earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Miami. His first book, Almost Dorothy, won the 2009 Marsh Hawk Press Poetry Prize and will be published in January 2010. In addition, his literary work has been published in Hayden’s Ferry Review, Barrow Street, Sentence, 42opus, Scene360, Court Green and other literary journals on the web and in print. In 2006, Facial Geometry (Neo Pepper Press), a collaborative chapbook of triads co-authored with Maureen Seaton and Kirstine Snodgrass, was published.

Neil produces two blogs, Almost Dorothy and Frivole Travel. Almost Dorothy chronicles the life and adventures of a totally fictional and extraordinarily devious child with red shoes and a lion’s heart who enjoys inclement weather and has a penchant for disaster. Frivole Travel, on the other hand, is building the Internet's most irreverent travel directory dedicated to uncovering small wonders in the world's most fabulous destinations.

Besides working as an Adjunct Professor of English at Miami-Dade College he also runs three small businesses, Frivole Couture, Frivole.com, a fashion design and manufacturing business based in Miami, and Squeaky Clean Pets, a luxury mobile grooming spa.
